“Psychological flexibility is the ability to adapt to a situation with awareness, openness, and focus and to take effective action, guided by your values.”

Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT).

What is ACT?

Research carried out by Paul Flaxman (City University, London) and Frank Bond (University of London) has found that ACT can make a significant contribution to employees’ psychological health, resilience, and effectiveness.

ACT suggests that we become less resilient when we get fixed in our psychology (our thoughts, emotions and behaviours).  To protect ourselves from the discomfort we can easily get caught up in unhealthy habits or avoidance strategies.  In the short term, these may feel better, however over time these result in us losing effective connection with ourselves and the world around us.

ACT develops the psychological skills you need to keep flexible in mind and behaviour.  This results in greater resilience, well-being and motivation for action, as well as a strong connection with a fulfilling life aligned with purpose.
